This is the GVW10 Amplifier made by ELAC Electroacustic Kiel. It is for the NHG Nah-horch-gerät. It was used on ships including U-Boats to have an early warning against Torpedos. It had permanently fixed Mikrophones in the hull of the ship on the left and right side.
On the front there are only two controls one for the amplification level and the ON/OFF switch. It also had two headphone connectors a fuse holder and a small lamp to indicate a working power-supply. Nicely visible is the small tag Verstärker on the front.
Here the type plate GVW10 the Anforderzeichen is the NA number. in this case NA337202. below that is the year of production 1944 and the serial number. On the bottom the producers name is stamped BBW this is a secret code for ELAC.
Inside the case of the Amplifier a schematic is visible as well as the power connector on the bottom.
The amplifier is very well designed. it uses 4 Tubes of the type RV12P2000 a universal and widely used tube.
On the inside a very nice amplifier can be seen. All cables are neatly tucked away and all components are mounted on Pertinax plates. Also visible is one of the Rube sockets.
Visible on this picture is the Amplification control in from of a Potentiometer. Also two tubes are visible and every part is marked with its own number. A single post war repair can be seen in form of two resistors.
The amplifier seen from below. Again the power connector can be seen and on the bottom left the power-supply running on 220VAC.
The power supply is very small and separate from the rest of the amplifier. It uses one big Transformer and two selenium rectifiers for both the Heater and Anode Voltage.
The last picture seen from below the front cover. Visible are multiple capacitors from the Power supply including a very large Hydra one. A very compact and easy to repair design. Everything can be accessed nicely.
